Free is ALWAYS good in my book! There is a great new FREE resource available to all New York and Pennsylvania car accident victims. AccidentSketch is a online utility that anyone can use to graphically document a car accident. The service is free and doesn’t even require registration!

Why Drawing an Accurate Accident Sketch is Important

Insurance companies, courts and lawyers all require detailed depictions of an accident to successfully resolve claims for compensation. Often there will be disputes about where each car involved in an accident was prior to, during or after the car crash. There may be disputes about the direction of travel for each car. There may be disputes about what car had the right of way at the time of the accident.

Experienced accident lawyers know that working with an accident sketch is a great way for your clients to discuss with you the details of EXACTLY how an accident occurred.

I discovered the existence of the AccidentSketch service through the Lifehacker weblog. I think it is a fantastic tool to ease the process of making an accurate accident report – and it puts the means in the hands of the people who were involved in the crash. AccidentSketch is one of those tools that is essential, once you know it’s out there.

One Warning!

Because it is critically important that an accident sketch be as accurate as possible, I would strongly urge anyone who was injured in a car accident to consult with an experienced accident lawyer BEFORE submitting an accident scene sketch to any insurance company. Why? Because anything you submit to an insurance company, even your own insurance company, may be used against you by the insurance company for the other driver involved in your accident. Accordingly, you want to make certain that the sketch is 100% accurate and there is nothing in the sketch that might shoot you in the foot…..

How AccidentSketch works

The software is amazingly simple to use. All of the standard road elements are already created – just put them together like a puzzle to recreate the circumstances of an accident.

  • First, you select road “pieces” to map an accurate depiction of the road, be it a curve, a urn, an intersection or other type of street. The pieces drag and snap into a grid at a scale of 1:100.
  • Then select your vehicle type (trucks, motorcycles, bicycles and pedestrians are also options) and place it in the road map you created. You can choose vehicle colors and input license plate numbers.
  • Continue to add vehicles and other details, such as traffic signs, lights, arrows, braking marks and more, until you have an accurate drawing of your accident.
  • You may even create a time-lapse version of the accident, by placing multiple images of vehicles on the map and using arrows to show their courses of action.
  • To complete your account of the accident, AccidentSketch allows you to type in a text report, where you can explain the accident in depth.

At this point, without paying a fee and with minimum effort, you will have a detailed, accurate and easy-to-follow accident report that will be invaluable information in settling insurance claims or a court case. (…)

Thanks for reading,
Jim

Nobody is perfect – the translations

We did put a lot of effort into trying to offer the functions of AccidentSketch.com to as many people all over the world as possible.  Sometimes there are very specific words and terms.  It was the matter of human interpreters and no auto translation program to do so.  Nevertheless you may never exclude small mistakes, bugs or even totally wrong terms.  So in case you are finding any kind of impreciseness in your mother tongue of the language version or having some sort of trouble, please let us know about it.  We would be very thankful about every advice and suggestion of improvement. Please leave your response in the comment function in this blog. Thank you very much for your help.

Traffic signs are not always the same

traffic-signsThe current version of AccidentSketch.com has a batch of common default traffic signs. Depending on the language version you will discover slightly differences of the traffic signs of your country to the ones that are available in the program. Some even may differ a lot. Coming up with the next update of AccidentSketch.com we want to localize the traffic signs,  so that you will only see the ones that you actually know of your country. Having said this we are looking forward to hear from you,  in case the traffic signs do differ,  by leaving a response with the comment function in this blog describing to what extent the traffic signs vary. A link showing an example of the right country-specific traffic sign would be very helpful. Thank you very much.

Grid go away!

By going on AccidentSketch.com a grid appears in the background on the drawing area by default. This grid’s only function is due to orientation and estimation purposes in order simplify adding a traffic element. If you have finished your sketch and you are comfortable with it, you should make the grid disappear by clicking the button “Show grid”  so that the check mark goes away. Now by creating the PDF there is no disturbing grid in your sketch.drid off

How do I save my drawing?

You might have not noticed yet, but actually every sketch that is created by you is saved automatically. This is why there is no special button to particularly save your sketch. If you have started or already finished your accident depiction all elements of your sketch will be saved after closing your browser. More …

How do I send my accident depiction via e-mail?

The e-mailing function seems to have a lack of transparency which we did not expect. Often we are asked why there is no function for sending a sketch via e-mail. Well, of course you can send your depiction to anyone in an e-mail. To do so, click on the button “Print depiction”. Now a PDF is created with your sketch of the accident. In this PDF you will find a button “Send/e-mail your sketch” on the top right corner. Click on this button and your depiction can be sent as an e-mail to anyone you want it to go to. In some certain languages there is no button (yet). Then use the implemented function of the Adobe Reader for sending the PDF – this leads to the same result. More …

ClaimMS GmbH – Let us introduce ourselves

Well, you know us as the team and operators of Accidentsketch.com. This application is used in a lot of different countries, languages and domains, in order to solve the circumstances and trouble that a traffic accident is causing and to assert your claim. Lawyers, administrations, the police, insurance companies, car rent organizations, adjusters, service providers and leasing companies use the service of the Pro Version of Accidentsketch.com for realtime data gathering and reporting of an accident 24/7  – no matter where you are. Later on, we are going to demonstrate and describe the options of the Accidentsketch.com Pro Version in a comment.

Our core business establishes developments of technical software, particularly with regards to the analysis and reconstruction of traffic accidents. In the past our software was developed as typical desktop applications. Now we are turning our approved solutions into web applications. Already in the first quarter of 2010 a very flexible application to create, calculate and draw Time-Distance-Diagrams in order to analyse and reconstruct the traffic accident, is going to be released. Vary the zoom and scale of the diagrams and print them in every current printing format or transfer them in the DXF-format of CAD-programms. Furthermore the graphic conversion of an analysis of collision is under construction. For the professionals in the field of traffic accident analysis we are offering an online CAD-program with more than 5000 views of vehicles in order to pass the means of Accidentsketch.com and depict professional sketches for court, the police and insurance companies. We are going to report on this in detail later in a comment, too.

In this blog we want to devote ourselves only with Accidentsketch.com. We are getting a lot of feedback in different languages. Unfortunately we cannot answer them all individually, so we want to try to answer the commonly asked questions in this blog. Therefore we hope you understand that you are supposed to communicate in english only in this blog.

We are looking forward to hear from you and hope to get suggestions for further developments with value. We are working on a lot of requests and suggestions of customers and many of them are going to be released already in the first quarter of 2010. In near future you will be able to embed photos and other documents into your claims file and sketch. Also the depiction that you have drawn will not only be accessible from your computer. You can even send your sketch to others who might copy, add or change it. Visit our blog again soon. We will report to all topics.

Vehicle Sketches – 5000 views

For the professionals in the field of traffic accident analysis we are offering an online CAD-program with more than 5000 views of vehicles in order to pass the means of Accidentsketch.com and depict professional sketches for court, the police and insurance companies. We are going to report on this in detail later in a comment.

The accuracy of the vehicle sketches is designed for accident reconstruction purposes (scale 1:100 within linewidth ). The drawings are easy to alter and are small in size ( 50 kB) , so redrawing is very fast in all software programs, even when a lot of vehicles are in one drawing.

Special features:

  1. centre of mass without load
  2. line of symmetry for easy adjusting
  3. wheels are drawn in one line, remain together even after dissolving block
  4. measures of wheels and vehicle controlled
  5. doors form an extra block, so they can be turned, “opened”
  6. due to special design of lines very realistic deformabilty
  7. position of steering wheel and seats -latter drawings-
  8. most prominent calculation data integrated in vehicle name -latter drawings-

All sketches are available in DXF, DWG, DCD, SKF and SKD format for programs like Analyzer, Carat, PCCrash, AutoCAD, DesignCAD, AutoSketch.
